New Strategic Plan Outlines STFM Priorities Through 2025

January 3, 2025—STFM has launched a new 5-year strategic plan, outlining priorities, objectives, and tactics through 2029. The plan was developed by an STFM Strategic Planning Committee and was approved by the STFM Board of Directors.

The new strategic plan is anchored by 5 pillars: 

  • Professional and leadership development,
  • Workforce recruitment and retention
  • Scholarship
  • Health equity and antiracism
  • Advocacy

Under each pillar are strategic goals, objectives, and tactics.

Some of the tactics that will receive considerable investment of time and resources over the next several years include:

  • Implementation of ethical artificial intelligence in family medicine education. 
  • implementation of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in family medicine education
  • Ongoing support for and education of faculty implementing competency-based medical education
  • Development of curriculum for teaching and assessing professionalism 
  • Development of a Family Medicine Scholarship Academy
  • Tools, resources, and support to help members meet diversity, equity, and inclusion accreditation requirements without violating legislative restrictions
  • Advocacy for equitable health care policies, and inclusive practices that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion
