AAFP and ACOFP Chapter Preceptor Recruitment and Retention Resources
Precepting Presentations and Exhibits at AAFP and ACOFP Chapter Meetings
Family medicine clerkships are struggling to obtain and retain quality clinical training sites. To help chapters address the shortages within their states, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine is offering:
- Precepting presentations at chapter conferences, beginning in August 2022. STFM will provide a speaker and cover all/any expenses for speaker travel and honoraria. See attached session abstract.
- Exhibits at chapter conferences, beginning in August 2022. STFM will purchase an exhibit (in person or virtual) for chapter meetings that are hosting the precepting presentations.
This opportunity is for AAFP and ACOFP chapters that did not have these presentations/exhibits in 2021 or early 2022.

Tax Incentives for Precepting: How Do They Work and Are They Making a Difference?
July 8, 2021 | Panelists: Annie Rutter, MD, MS, FAAFP; Ryan Biehle, MPH, MPA, CAE; Becky Wimmer; Fay Fulton, MHS; Kelley Withy, MD, PhD; Kathy Pabst, MBA, CAE
Most states are facing a looming physician shortage. Medical schools and AAFP chapters have implemented numerous creative approaches to support the clinical training of medical students. One of those approaches is incentivizing teaching through income tax credits for uncompensated precepting.
During this panel presentation sponsored by STFM, find out how AAFP chapters have been involved in passing legislation in their states and whether tax incentives have made an impact on the shortage of clinical training sites.
