Call for Applications for Behavioral Science/Family Systems Educator Fellowship Director

Deadline to Apply Is November 15, 2024

The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) is now accepting applications for the Behavioral Science/Family Systems Educator Fellowship (BFEF) Director. This fellowship offers training, tools, and mentorship for new faculty responsible for coordinating or teaching the behavioral science/family systems curriculum.

The director serves a 3-year term starting May 2026. The director will be asked to start in May 2025 for one year of shadowing with the current fellowship director. The director will be reimbursed up to $600 in travel expenses to the STFM Annual Spring Conference each year during their term.

Deadline to Apply

Submit your CV and a letter of interest with qualifications (two pages max) to Sydney Brown at sbrown@stfm.org by November 15, 2024. Include your name, degrees, job title, and program/institution name.

BFEF Director Responsibilities

Oversight and Leadership

  • Oversee the entire process of the fellowship
  • Collaborate with:
    • Co-director
    • STFM-BFEF liaison
    • STFM leadership

Recruitment and Selection

  • Recruit fellows through:
    • Advertisements
    • Presence at conferences
    • Networking
  • Solicit applications
  • Oversee the selection of fellows from applications

Curriculum and Educational Planning

  • Work with the co-director to:
    • Select small-group mentors
    • Plan the educational curriculum for:
      • STFM Annual Spring Conference
      • Conference on Practice and Quality Improvement
  • Solicit experts in the field to deliver the curriculum

Meeting Management

  • Manage all meeting space and timing
  • Serve as a point of contact for required fellow activities
  • Hold monthly steering committee meetings to prepare and plan for the fellowship

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure fellows meet all BFEF requirements
  • Work with STFM leadership to form a budget
  • Report to the STFM Board

Time Commitment and Term

  • Average commitment: 5 hours per week (increases during recruitment, Annual Spring Conference, and the Conference on Practice & Quality Improvement)
  • Expected to attend:
    • Annual Spring Conference
    • Conference on Practice & Quality Improvement
    • Term length: 3 years
    • Shadowing period: Newly appointed director shadows outgoing director for 1 year prior to term beginning
