Members of the STFM Faculty Development Collaborative developed the Faculty Competencies based on a needs assessment, semi-structured survey, systematic literature review, and a modified Delphi study. The Faculty Competencies are designed to be modular, flexible, and adaptable for use by interdisciplinary faculty in all types of family medicine programs for self-assessment, personal goal setting, and engaging in planning conversations with mentors and leaders.
Faculty are encouraged to assess their skills in the seven specific domains that relate to their goals for professional growth and development. Accompanying resources are included to facilitate access to tools that promote skill acquisition in the faculty’s chosen target areas. The results of faculty self-assessments could be aggregated and used for planning faculty development in individual programs and departments.
