ACGME Releases New Family Medicine Requirements
The new ACGME family medicine requirements, which take effect July 1, 2019, are now posted. Aspects of note:
- The amount of required program director protected administrative time is based on the size of the program
- The requirements specify the minimum number of associate program directors required, based on the size of the program; associate program directors must dedicate at least 40% FTE to the administration of the program
- Specified teaching time for program directors and core faculty have been eliminated. AAFP (also on behalf of STFM and ADFM, ABFM and AFMRD) testified to the ACGME Committee on Requirements on June 7 to request that individual specialty review committees be allowed to specify teaching time. We will continue to pursue this with the ACGME.
- Programs must have a full-time coordinator
- Participating sites shouldn't be more than an hour away fro the primary clinical site
- Residents should have remote access to the EHR from all clinical sites
- Faculty scholarly activity focuses on the program instead of individual faculty activity
ACGME will release a new Frequently Asked Questions document by July 1.
