Building My Career With STFM

by Alison Dobbie, MD

Ever since I moved to the United States of America from a rural practice in Scotland, STFM has been my professional home. Through STFM, I have connected with my dearest friends and colleagues.

STFM membership has also helped me build my career. In the early days, I received a New Faculty Scholars award, and later served on the Program Committee, as well as secretary and treasurer of the STFM Board of Directors.

Activities conducted through STFM played a large part in my academic promotion and career progression to department chair and senior associate dean for education. In 2020, I was honored and delighted to be named the STFM Educator of the Year.

Paying it Forward

STFM remains important to me, especially as I reach the career stage where I would like to give back and help develop the next generation of leaders for our specialty. Supporting the Foundation is a powerful and direct way to contribute and give back to our Society and its members.

Transformation

Transforming the future of family medicine would not be possible without the generosity of people like Alison Dobbie, as well as countless STFM members and supporters. Through both member and departmental donations, the STFM Foundation is able to support STFM's priority to develop the pipeline for academic family medicine.
